Hello my Fellow Indiegrrl Sisters and extra cool Indiegrrl Brothers,
Our Indiegrrl Mom, Vicki is gratefully recovering from Cancer and difficulties with lupus and we all have a lot to thank her for, considering she spends just about every waking hour thinking of us and how to help our careers!
A few of us Indiegrrls set up a medical fund trust so it makes it easy to contribute to help her on her way to recovery. So IndieGrrls, (and our COOL Boyz that love us Indiegrrls) let's each go to the "Chip In" widget on the http://www.indiegrrl.com website and make a donation large or small to help her with her medical bills, alternative therapies, herbal supplements and organic foods, while she's on the mend, OK?
AND put the "chip in" widget it on your own website, do a little mailing to some of your people who are generous and kind. Let's get a WOMAN (and COOL Boyz that love Indiegrrls) chain going, so if we each get 5 people to send 5, 10 or 15 bucks, it'll add up quick. Hey if you've got 20 bucks or more, all the better. We've got $20 in there as of today, and we're shooting for LOTS & LOTS! We can do it with a little help from our friends.
Let's help our IndieMom Vicki put this all behind her, so she can look forward to a bright and healthy future. NO Worries! We have attached the "Chip In" widget below.
Love, Sonya Heller www.myspace.com/sonyaheller

So many women artists are writing our office and wanting to take part in the many event opportunities that we are working hard to create. You need to be a member of Indiegrrl Women in the Arts to take part in our organizations events. We have a networking group, sponsor discounts, a yearly conference, and showcases in venues along with events like Indiegrrl Fest that we are working to create in as many states as possible. It is all a continual building effort. The yearly membership fee of $30 helps us reach these goals and we try to keep that membership fee low because we know the shoe string budgets of Indie artists. Artists who perform in our shows get paid and split ticket sales. So if you are in one of our events, please do help us promote it with your fans/friends/family because it benefits everyone to have a packed house. AND it just makes things more fun when wild screaming fans are cheering for the performers.
Visit http://indiegrrl.com/join.html today and get your membership form and become a part of an organization that supports and showcases our members.

Music
Indie artists rock and are the grass roots of the entertainment industry. Indiegrrl has so many fantastic independent women singer songwriters, comedians, spoken word artists, writers, and more and we invite you to visit our website members page at Indiegrrl
and click on the links of the Indiegrrl Performing Members to enjoy a wide variety of music styles in all genres.
"The arts work together as a whole. Visual art, dance, music, comedy, music production, theater, radio and film all compliment each other and merge together in various aspects. Women in these industries need a way to network together, work together, ask for and give support and advice and help build each others careers. Indie means much more than independent songwriters. Indie means Independence to take your career where you want it to go. It is in this independence that a community of professional women need to circle around each other and give and offer support and work together on projects." ~ Vicki Blankenship
2008 was the year of the face lift for Indiegrrl now known as Indiegrrl Women in the Arts. Established as Indiegrrl in 1998 by songwriter Holly “Figueroa” O’Reilly as a networking forum for female independent songwriters, the revamping of the organization began in October 2005 when Holly passed the reigns to songwriter Vicki Blankenship. The networking group is now a non profit working to create networking, educational, and showcasing opportunities for women in the arts. A paid yearly membership fee of $30 shows your support for this organization that works hard to build more opportunities and benefits for its members. Now known as Indiegrrl Women in the Arts, this organization puts a focus on showcasing female artists not only in music but comedy, spoken word, women authors and more and produces community based events known as Indiegrrl Fest where women artisans can display and sell their arts and crafts and performing members can take the stage.
Indiegrrl Women in the Arts now produces a yearly conference where members can meet each other, attend workshops and panel discussions by industry professionals to help members build entrepreneurial skills, showcase on a stage viewed by industry professionals and piers and tour through an exhibit hall trade show of industry related businesses and groups. The Indiegrrl Women in the Arts Conference on August 20 to 23, 2009 will take place in Nashville, TN at the beautiful Hotel Preston located at 733 Briley Parkway in one of the United States most recognized cities for music. Visit our website at www.indiegrrl.com for more information and submit now for showcase opportunities. Deadline to submit for a showcase is April 1.
Another EXCITING announcement is the new INDIEGRRL RADIO CHANNEL which is in its beginning phases of production and will be a channel devoted to playing Indiegrrl members in music, comedy, spoken word, and more 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The channel will stream live across the internet and will also do features and interviews of various members of the organization each month. An online Ezine is also being developed that will discuss news in music, comedy, art, and more.
EVEN MORE EXCITING is the new online Indiegrrl retail store that will open very soon where Indiegrrl members can sell their CDs, DVDs, and Books.
If you are a fan of women in music, comedy, spoken word, art, and more we ask that you support our members and our causes. We also hope you will spread the news about Indiegrrl Women in the Arts and show support by attending our many events.
If you would like to become a sponsor of Indiegrrl and have your banner ad on our website and more and offer our members a discount on your products and services that will benefit our careers, please contact vicki@indiegrrl.com. Your donations are tax deductible.
The 2008 Indiegrrl Women in the Arts Conference was a big success. Now onward and upward to the 2009 Indiegrrl Women in the Arts Conference in NASHVILLE, TN on August 20 to 23.

"The Araya Family and Friends Benefit Concert For Anamaria Araya" is this Friday, May 29th in Long Beach, Ca.
Anamaria has ovarian cancer. We've organized this concert as a way of helping her to pay for her medical care, show her support and at the same time we'll get to play and hear good music played by many of the Araya family musicians and good friends.
Hope you can come out. If you're not able to make it we'd appreciate any donation you can spare. Thanks so much.
Every time that we listen & write music... play an instrument... dance... act in a play... or work in some audio/image/video engineering process... something is healing inside...
When we share it with friends... something is healing all over...
