Usually with Ollie Cherer playing Saw, frisking the Theremin, blowing the Angel Melodyhorn (mmm) and strumming the pianet.
Influences
Nic Jones, Shirley Collins, Brian Eno, Mr Mulcahy, Roy Harper, Motorhead, a herd of Jersey Cows and a Mk2 Motoguzzi LeMans with Cosworth pistons and a straight cut gearbox.
Irwin Chusid ...Oh and probably Richard and Linda Thompson at some point in another past.Oh and David Ackles
Sounds Like
"...ghosts of ex-lovers in the bottom of that 4am glass..."
"...a voice like silk, old torn silk that's stinking and slightly rotten...."
"...but if there's one lesson they ought to learn it's to never ever let Jack Hayter near a microphone ever again. ..."
Can't help you much I'm afraid...but some like the stuff.
I was in the elusive South London band Spongefinger, and Hefner (North London's largest small band with Darren Hayman,Ant and John Morrison); These days I am sometimes playing pedal steel and guitar with with Ollie Cherer's cinematic soundscapists Dollboy In addition to playing steel guitar on a load of rather obscure but excellent records...by The Bitter Springs, Tram, etc; I croak lyrically peculiar songs about romance and tribulation. and my folkish album "Practical Wireless" released in 2002 on Absolutely Kosher Records is available in many good shops...but not Sainsburys. www.boomkat.co.uk etc.
The collection of songs above gets changed quite frequently. The Unsent Letter is a cover of an song by MGF...an Australian band who were rather parental advisory...well I advised my parents not to listen! I couldn't resist doing a version. MGF probably would hate it cos I dont wear fishnets on stage...or lick my instrument...at any time really...that I can remember.
The version of 'Gold' is all Spinmaster Plantpot's fault. He played a trick on me ... promising me great riches if i would do it. I am probably the only contributor to a mysterious album of his conception which was to consist entirely of obscure cover versions of the aforementioned ditty.
Come to think of it that version of the Smiths' 'Jeane' was also his idea.

The mighty Spongefinger are no more but I found this "Wilbur" on Youtube.
There's no-one Wilbur. Leave me.

ha, shit, really? nobody tells me nothing! ace, thanks Jack.
I'm really sorry I missed your show this week, my wisdom tooth has decided to revolt and remove as much of my mouth as possible, and me and my other tooths have been feeling sorry for ourselves.
Give my household's love to Darren though if you see fit? Or at least infer that another couple of people in north london are thinking of him. x
