Despite increasing popularity, and a brand new style, Joshua Fletcher & the Six-Shot Romance is a band who will always remember where they came from.
“We were all doing punk rock kind of stuff,” says guitarist Casey Wilson, “…it wasn’t pretty, but its how we learned to be in a band.” Playing in a few different bands around the Atlanta area, Singer/Songwriter Joshua Fletcher and drummer Colin Dean met guitarist Casey Wilson, and bassist James Bowie. The guys became friends from playing music on the same stage together in different bands, and came together as a unit after Fletcher brought a solo Americana album to his friends, asking if they would like to play the backing band at an upcoming live show. It’s a mix of that punk-band past, and their quasi-country band present that gives the band their stage presence, that of a few young punks who have graduated to a more heartfelt, mature kind of music.
Their stage presence, coupled with their songs, is garnering Joshua Fletcher & the Six-Shot Romance a lot of attention throughout Atlanta and the southeast. AbolutePunk.com says that Joshua Fletcher & the Six-Shot Romance’s debut album, “A Gentleman Doesn’t Kiss and Tell” “…should not be missed by anyone with a love for honest songwriting.”
“I think it’s our honesty that keeps us connected with our audience.” Says singer/guitarist Joshua Fletcher, “people can connect with what I’m saying, and when you put that together with a melody, I think you have a very personal, very powerful tool with which to connect with people.”
Joshua Fletcher & the Six-Shot Romance have been connecting with audiences since May of 2005, when they played their first show at Tasty World in Athens, GA. Even though it was only two hours from home, it gave the band their first taste of the road, and they’ve been in love with it ever since. Since that first show, Joshua Fletcher & the Six-Shot Romance have played in a wide range of venues including the Nick in Birmingham, AL, Backbooth in Orlando, FL, the Guitar Bar in Savannah, GA, the 40 Watt in Athens, GA, the Complex in Memphis, TN, and many more places even including a show opening for Hanson at the Roxy Theater in the band’s hometown of Atlanta.
The experience was surreal,” Says Fletcher of the Roxy show, “there were fifteen-hundred people in that room, and it was only our third show as a full band. I could definitely stand to do that every night.” Even as a young band, those who were paying attention could see that the songwriting and chemistry that bands need to take that next step were definitely there. A reviewer for the Georgia State Signal stated that the band “…played fun, catchy music that everyone loved. “
Today, the band retains that fun side, but as a much more serious, more dedicated rock band. “We’re having more fun than ever, and I think that’s showing through in our music,” Says drummer Colin Dean, “Of course that also means that we enjoy playing music with each other more than ever, and as long as that continues, we will continue to progress as a band.”
This progression could very well be the start of something big for these four young men from Atlanta, Georgia.
