DARWIN FOR THE DAY
On Stage for A Limited Run
DARWIN FOR THE DAY is Krista Detor's homage to the stories, sketches, and, of course, the songs inspired in and by the Darwin Songhouse in Shrewsbury, UK ~ the project in which she participated in March 2009, along with seven other singer-songwriters chosen from around the world. She is joined in its creation by award-winning author and storyteller Arbutus Cunningham in a limited run of shows celebrating the amazing life of Charles Darwin and his lasting and profound influence on the world. Together with guitarist David Weber, two talented women bring the travels, discoveries, and passions of Charles Darwin to life on the stage! Sample their collaborative work at youtube.com/kristadetor.
Check Krista's tour schedule on this page for dates and locations of current "Darwin for the Day" shows, or contact tightrope.bookings@gmail.com to book one.
“Mudshow was brilliant ... [on Cover Their Eyes], Krista works her way through another wonderful selection of songs [from which it is] impossible to choose a favourite...."
Krista Detor's debut album, Mudshow, was released in 2006 to international critical acclaim, garnering an average of 4+ star reviews, and reaching the No. 1 spot on the Euro-Americana chart. Her follow-up record, Cover Their Eyes, achieved equally unanimous critical acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic. Krista has been featured on NPR and countless syndicated radio shows internationally. She defies genre, but the quality of her writing has been compared to the likes of Leonard Cohen, Laura Nyro, Tom Waits, and Joni Mitchell, company she is more than happy to keep.
Touring the U.S. and Europe consistently, Detor has shared stages with Joan Armatrading, Suzanne Vega, Loudon Wainwright, Sam Phillips, Colin Linden, Chris Wood, Luka Bloom, Slaid Cleaves, Peter Mulvey, The Wailing Jennys, Jakob Dylan, Jez Lowe, Carrie Newcomer, Lucy Kaplansky, and John Gorka, among others, and travels with her partner and producer, David Weber.

After you've finished here, you may like to hear this poem sung on myspace...
Poem 2 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my myspace blog): WALKABOUT WITH MY PEN
Once drove an old sedan, up north, From a place in Sydney to Cairns; Then to Kuranda I went forth, By train, to look without set plans.
I browsed through the trendy market, With fresh fruits of tropical kind; Walked to the creek through lush thicket - Nature’s hand giving peace of mind.
I dined in a scenic cafe; Then, outside, as I wrote for yen, Some passing Kooris called-out: “Hey, You go walkabout with your pen.”
Request or question, I don’t know - Assured voices, elderly men. That’s now several years ago, And I’ve seen the world - with my pen.
Just had another view and listen to your Darwin Project song, Clock Of The World. It's beautiful, and the voices carry me away. So glad that you and Karine got to meet, being two songwriters (and people) that I love and admire. When you see her at month's end, please give her a hug for me and tell her that Duke Lang says hello! DL
