NPR.org:"With a sweet vocal sensibility and a gift for a good tune, singer-songwriter Krista Detor instills in her work the distinct cultural flavors of her varied travels. Her songs have been compared to those of Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen and Laura Nyro, and she's collaborated with Carrie Newcomer and Tim Grimm in the stage show and CD Wilderness Plots."(Hear Krista's Mountain Stage Radio performance featured on NPR.org.)
Dirty Linen:"Concrete and surreal. . . melodic and strong. . . you believe it all and follow..."
R. Warren, Sing Out! Magazine:"Krista Detor sings with one of the most gorgeous alto voices in my 13,000 CD library (and) Cover Their Eyes is an arrestingly creative and mystical album that draws you in and rewards your attention from start to finish. The sound and content make this a remarkable recording."
Arthur Wood, FolkWax:"10 of 10 Stars! A Sparkling Gem . . . The melodies on Cover Their Eyes are hook rich and thoroughly engaging, and definitely of the 'must hear again' variety."
Bob Gottlieb, F.A.M.E. Hear the Music: "There is a clarity and strength to both her music and her voice, as she takes the many disparate genres of music that have filtered into her life, and moved her, and weaves it into a seamless whole that seems to be greater than all the parts that make it up."
Fred Dolan, WJCU:“Krista is one of the most exciting talents I've heard in years.”
Andy Kearney, WMNF: "Oh my God, listeners love it! ...what a gift your art is to us who appreciate intelligent, sensitive, and witty lyrics. And it comes wrapped in such amazing melodies.”

“Mudshow was brilliant, and I was a little worried that her third album might be an anticlimax. I needn’t. Krista works her way through another wonderful selection of songs and it’s almost impossible to choose a favourite track. Her warm, treacly voice and effortless arrangements make listening to 'Cover Their Eyes' the aural equivalent of a long hot bath with candles all around.”

I wrote Mudshow as an experiment ~ a musical painting of sorts ~ trying to capture the Indiana landscape and the town I live in. I'm happy with the end result. I'm happy that some others are as well. Someone said that America won the cold war but lost the war of categories... Everyone wants a category. Makes life easier and more containable. Doesn't always work, though. I can't find it for myself, exactly, and I get tired of being asked to.
A great American songwriter, Slats Klug, gave me high praise with this.. "She sings like an angel on Mudshow - the angel of death playing russian roulette with the grim reaper over tea and brandy...alternating anesthesia and a cold scalpel down the belly, she takes names, not prisoners...like a voyeur peeking into our homes, relationships, myths and the dark night of our souls, Detor has left the truth bundled at our doorstep and rung the bell."
After finishing production of my new album 'Cover Their Eyes' this fall, my partner Dave Weber and I launched it during a month-long tour in Northern Europe. A couple of the highlights of that tour were opening for one of my longtime idols, Joan Armatrading, and for the wonderful Suzanne Vega at the Paradiso in Amsterdam. A live broadcast video of the Paradiso performance was released on the Fab Channel, and can be viewed on this page. 'Cover Their Eyes will be released in the U.S. in April 2008, followed in November by my new album of all-original holiday songs, 'The Silver Wood.' I'm thrilled to note that performances of these songs during concerts in November and December have been met with unprecedented enthusiasm and sales of the limited edition CD.
Earlier this year I completed work on the 'Wilderness Plots' project with Carrie Newcomer, Tim Grimm, Tom Roznowski and Michael White ~ musical interpretations of the book by great American author Scott Russell Sanders. The Wilderness Plots show has been touring since March to critical acclaim in the midwest and beyond, and I feel incredibly lucky to be able to work in an industry that is struggling under the weight of the difficult transition from one medium to another. Hard to pay the rent when all the music in the world is for free ... so I'm grateful to all those people who continue to support artists they believe in and enjoy. Thanks.

Hi Krista -- Fabulous performance on Mountain Stage! That was a particularly lovely Icarus. I'm so glad this was made available online after the fact, since my plan to try to listen at work when it was actually broadcast was foiled by, well, work. :-) Hope all is well, and we'll see you soon!
Hi Krista, thanks for stopping by my page. Yup, I'm eagerly awaiting Bob's new CD. Please let me know when you're going to be back in this area. Love your songs.
