A one woman circus just for you, usually sung without a safety net, similar in spirit to Wax Mannequin, Martin Tielli, Issa AKA Jane Siberry, David Bowie, Tom Waits, and your favorite dare devil relative.
“Tear stained bone machine melodrama for the forlorn and frisky alike.”
Steve Baylin / Ottawa Xpress. . . . “The tendencies of Tom Waits, while putting Johnny Cash through a Kate Bush filter.” Fateema Sayani, Ottawa Citizen. . . . “Poushinsky…stray[s] into the imagistic realm of writers like Michael Ondaatje…with lines that linger deliciously in the air long after the notes have faded.” Stephen Flood, the Ottawa Sun. . . . L.Poushinsky is an Ottawa based singer / songwriter electric folk lover! Catch her solo or with friends as L.Poushinsky spans the musical spectrum, embracing folk, rock, alt-country, cabaret, and jazz with her vocal theatrics. Choosing her sets from 4 albums of original material, L.Poushinsky wows audiences with her shivering voice, snakey guitar, and songs stretching from graveyard rock to pure pop poetry. Since 2004, L. Poushinsky has recorded three full-length albums, fronted two bands, and performed over 100 shows across Canada from Northern B.C. to Newfoundland. L. Poushinsky is part of a number of musical projects in the Ottawa area, including organ and vocals for Dave Norris & Local Ivan, 40 Watt Monkey, Brian Simms, and Bandier Lake. L.Poushinsky is looking forward to touring the GTA November 2009 with Dave Norris and Local Ivan, with a new album and a new roster of jazzy folk originals. Look out for L. Poushinsky in a town near you as she crosses Canada, summer 2010, with her release “Heart Shaped Cookie Cutter,” an album chronicling the life and romantic adventures of a woman who learns lessons about love (and sweet teeth!) the hard way. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
I agree! The power of the thunderbird...probably the most powerfull of all the aboriginal animal archtypes, is now a part of the Parlour steps. You are so right. - The pleasure was ours as well to share the stage with such lovely musicians.
I forgot to say, my other band is playing in Ottawa this friday at Avant-Garde Bar. It's very different music than Nervous Wrecked, but maybe you'd enjoy it anyways. www.myspace.com/extinctoralive
no problem! i was happy to do it. i would have recorded more songs, but sadly, the batteries in my camera died. i was lucky to even get through the second song, but it did and my heart filled with joy. no free tickets are needed, but it would be swell. i'd show up, regardless. at the very least, i'll be at your next show. i might even introduce myself if i get up the courage to say hello.
Yo Baby Gurl. We tried to find the open mic night weds. when we met. My brain doesn't retain much info. I still want to come down and jam with you. I can't help but believe that you are " Awesome". How ws your interview at CKCU?
I just got back to my apartment at school and while digging through boxes I'd had in storage all summer I found your CD and have been listening to it non-stop for three days now.
Thistle is wonderful and beautiful. Can't wait to see you play live again!
