Our lives, experiences and the people that matter to us. Or is that a bit shmaltzy?
Neye Benziyor?
Ahh, you know the sorts of things...Neil Young, The National, Mamas & Papas, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Wilco, Nick Cave, Blur, The Cure, Gillian Welch, Surfjan Stevens, Bright Eyes, The Smiths. etc. etc. etc. This would make one helluva line up.... and something that mildly represents elements of the music we make together.
"With harmonies to die for, poignant lyrics, strong vocals and tight playing this has to be one of the most rounded and consistent albums of 2008." Paul Abraham, leedsmusicpromotions
'All the songs are of such a high standard that it’s near on impossible to select a stand out track.
Lyrically intelligent and musically brilliant, “All intents and purposes “is a very, very likeable album indeed. Dare I say a classic of its genre?' - The Music Guru
"An excellent set of tunes, including some verging on masterpieces, with influences including some of the most outstanding musicians in the genre"
- Sheffieldmusic
'The record’s mournful edge is drawn from the band’s experiences whilst making the record– this is encapsulated on the particularly potent ‘The great illustrator’ and the sublime finale ‘The cracks in the floor’.
This is a record of great beauty and also of great subtleties – best served with gentle lighting and a bottle (or two) of red.' 4 out of 5
- Subba Cultcha
"insightful [...] melody twists in and out of everything. Delightfully gentle"
- The Beat Surrender
"Arguably the most noticeable quality attributable to All Intents and Purposes however, is that it's not a record imbibed with any real kind of modern-day vigour. Rather, it sounds as if it belongs steadfastly to another age inhabited by jaded experience. Movingly poignant"
- Sandman Magazine
"All Intents And Purposes has a heavy country influence, but March of Dimes always take pains to sound fresh, with the inclusion of a few unexpected instruments...The majority of people will find [it an] interesting and varied listen. Worth checking out if you like your music mellow, melodic and poignant.
- LeedsMusicScene 3.5/5
'On first listen it becomes apparent that a style akin to country music and folk saturates the whole listening experience. A kind of floaty wistfulness that carrys you through the songs. But once you listen again, the subtleties of the albums mood become more apparent. A very promising debut from Leeds’ ever growing indie scene, let its harmonies and poignance wash over you on the next rainy day.
- Live Music Scene (Bristol)
To pretend that this band came about due to a mystical meeting of stars, cosmos and/or minds would be a bit of a stretch. It came about because Jon really had some stuff to say, Robin really wanted to hit and pluck things, Tom has been there to support Robin and Jon from way back in the day so we knew we could count on him, and Cat, having never been in a band before relished the challenge.
Brothers Robin and Jon were both on the same musical page, and wanted to keep things pretty low key and acoustic while still being reasonably ballsy. Jon says "We have always appreciated a good melody and a good harmony so they were factors we knew would be present but at the same time we didn't want it to be airy and fairy, we wanted an edge...a bit of world weariness perhaps."
..
Joining us recently are Sean on Bass, and Gordon who's taken over the guitars from Rob as he's in Canada now, but always welcome back!
2008 has been an amazing year for us - our album, 'All Intents and Purposes' was released and is now in your favourite independent music shop (and if it's not get them to order it in form Hope House Records!) and on iTunes too. An amazing tour launched the album, and some great gigs have followed including a lovely acoustic set at Gary Stewart's Gaslight Club and supporting Albert Ross and The Otters just before Christmas.
2009 is already shaping up to be an amazing year, with lots of new songs, some really exciting gigs ahead and our very best friends all around us. Who knows what the future will hold, but we can't wait!

The Party Planning Committee... Children of the Revolution We are hosting a series of events at the Ruby Lounge in Manchester on the 28th January, 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th February 2010 showcasing upcoming new bands from the local area. We will be having a 'battle of the bands' play off between 4 unsigned upcoming bands with a larger band finishing off each night with a set of their own. The nights will be in aid of Barnardo's and we will have a panel of special guests from Manchester judging the new bands. A compere will lead the night and provide comedy between sets. The 25th February night will be the final where the winners of the four previous nights will battle it out for the prize. We have heard your band and think you would be a perfect fit to headline one of the nights of what we know will be a brilliant event, so if you are interested, please get in touch with which night is best for you. With your help we can make the event a massive success. We look forward to hearing from you, Adam Mortimer
