About me: Unimaginable pain.
Terrifying realization.
Then, darkness.
Complete and total darkness.
I'm Marcus Engel and I lived these horrific moments... but that's only the beginning of the story. On a cold autumn night during my freshman year of college, my life took a dramatic turn. After attending a Saturday night hockey game with friends, a drunk driver traveling at twice the speed limit slammed broadside into the car in which we were riding; a thin piece of Toyota metal was meager protection from the full impact of the on-coming vehicle.
When I awoke to a world I would never again see, I faced obstacles no one, much less a teenager, should have to face; accept and adapt to blindness, live through hundreds of hours of reconstructive facial surgery and find happiness in a world changed forever.
The life lessons learned through that experience helped me return to college and became the foundation for my career as a professional speaker. Whether through the live keynote presentation or the words of my autobiography, I'm humbled to know that my story has empowered, enlightened and entertained hundreds of thousands of people. Audiences nationwide have learned to overcome personal adversity and make intelligent decisions.

I grew up in Bellfower area and your mom was actually my teacher at Bellflower. Then I went off to college at Central Methodist University in 06 and you were the guest speaker at the freshman orientation, i thought it was pretty neat.

I am doing well. I'm an RN at University in Columbia. Fred is out of the Army now and working at the youth facility in town. Jeff just moved to Houston from New Orleans. He has four kids now, the oldest is almost 13!
