PHILADELPHIA HOME MOVIE DAY
OCTOBER 17, 2009
BRING YOUR 8MM, SUPER 8, 16MM FILMS TO SCREEN
Also live home soundtrack performances by JESSE SPARHAWK, JESSE KUDLER and poetry by FRANK SHERLOCK, ISH KLEIN, C.A. CONRAD
Where can you discover the ecstasy of Christmas morning and the giddiness of a summer down the shore? Where can your family members prance across a screen like the movie stars they think they are? Where do film archivists inspect and project those mysterious film reels that have been entertaining the dust in your grandmother’s attic? Home Movie Day! Home Movie Day is an annual film event that takes place in cities around the world on a single Saturday. Now in its seventh year, Home Movie Day provides a unique service to the community: it illuminates the lives of friends and neighbors through their own films and family histories. At Home Movie Day, everyone is encouraged to bring their 8mm, super 8mm and/or 16mm home movies. Archivists inspect the reels and project the films that are in good condition. Home Movie Day provides a rare opportunity for Philadelphians to see their movies that have sat in boxes unseen and forgotten for too many years. Expect to see family holidays, milestones, and vacations, but don’t be surprised to encounter a child’s masked avenger fantasy film or a demonstration of an obscure hunting skill. The charm of this singular event is in watching fashions change, families grow, and history unfold. Join us for a day of casual anthropology at the third annual Philadelphia Home Movie Day on Saturday, October 17. This year’s event will take place at International House (3701 Chestnut St.) from noon-4pm. The event is free, but we hope you’ll bring your films and friends. OCT 26th DJing for INDEPENDENTS COFFEE COOP Dance Party Fundraiser. 9pm-2am at North Star Bar, 27th and Poplar
This Dance Party is to benefit and create awareness for The Independents Coffee Cooperative. The Cooperative is made up of the following coffee shops; Burlap and Bean, Crescent Moon Coffee & Tea, Green Line Cafe, Joe Coffee Bar (roasting & internet sales only), Kaffa Crossing, Metropolitan Bakery & Cafe, and Mugshots Coffeehouse.
The Dance Party featured VJ Yakov and many more...
Info on the Cooperative & Fair Trade
----------------------------
Fair trade
--------
To be fair-trade certified, coffee must be bought from a democratically organized co-op of farmers, and grown and harvested according to strict rules that require environmental sustainability, fair labor conditions, and a minimum floor price for the beans. Supporters say that promoting farmers with ethical and environmental practices means that, with each fair-trade purchase, consumers are contributing to sustainability and positive economic change in poor, coffee-growing communities.
The Independents Coffee Cooperative
-----------------------------
a group of Philadelphia-based coffee shops, was founded in 2003 to promote fair trade and sustainability among its members and in the community at large. The benefit proceeds go towards various projects the coop is involved with. For more on the Coop go to www.independentscoffee.com/
