I was born in the quiet suburb of Garden City Park, NY and whenever there were waves, I was in the back of someones car or driving to the beach instead of doing chores or playing football. I mean, how can you be expected at double sessions, practice and games in the months of August, September and October? That's when Long Island gets great waves...good times... From Garden City Park, I moved to Long Beach, working in the bars, surfing, drinking and where I was introduced to a group of the most supportive loonatics in the world as far as I'm concerned. Playing in living rooms and bars all over the Island, I used to pack my car and go play. Armed with a surfboard on my roof, a smelly wetsuit, an amp some clothes and a guitar. I played. Every weekend was a debouchery. In a good way though... i think.
So those Long Beach loonatics I was talking about earlier are the ones who propelled my ass to play originals and move on. So I did. Here I must thank some people and thier couches... Ron's green monster, Nixon watergate couch and just about every place you lived. Eric and Andy's sticky leather couch. Briggs, I have nothing to say about your couch. Very cosy. Pockross' cat hair couch. (thanks for lint rollers) Scot T, do you know i have slept on your couch? Jack always had an extra bedroom...he's regal, and after an extended stay on a couch in, (Brooklyn) Tom, Francine and Sharon moved out and took the couch, forcing me to put my bed where thiers was...yes i had cooties and they didn't like it.
Surely I digress... So I moved into Brooklyn to be closer to the city (because I hate daily 1 hour train rides) but found funny looking relocated people from middle America called hipsters who never say hello on the street. You might have heard of them... inquisutive group, cute glasses? Anyway, among the hipsters and Italians, I moved in with my cousin Dave, who plays a mean guitar, (formerly of Blind Man's Sun, conductor of the Novo Philharmonic) and now have a band that includes, Sean Dixon on drums and Jordan Jancz on bass and most of the acoustic stuff I played has turned electric.
Granted, I don't get to surf as much, but i was brought under Dave's 'wing' and he taught me that my life is music! I don't just play for fun, I play all the time...in his words, "Its what we do." Music is what everyone in my life encouraged but something I was afraid to go for! Give up teaching and what I studied in college to play music? Be poor, give up your car and everything that kept you social with people to keep your dream of music alive? It's where I'm at and happy to be here. Thanks Dave.
So now, I try to play in front of as many people as I can, listen or not, I'll play...and yes, i will still play in a living room and will be very happy to use your couch thank you. All the songs here on myspace are all we have recorded, but dave and I are workin on that now. We will be going back into the studio and will be again working with Doug Derryberry who recorded and played with the likes of Dave Matthews, John Mayer and Bruce Hornsby. Hopefully you will be able to hear the new album by summers end.
Hope you like the music.
P.S.
For some acoustic outtakes and other thoughts i put out musically, check out The Hesitation Waltz in my top friends!
I have a new tune on my other myspace called 'Jazzy Blue' ~
This is the first time I've gotten to record within my brand spanking new ~ totally optimized Ashram / Asylum ~ & I must say with this updated digital recording facility & some new axes to grind ~ it is truly a luxury at it's finest ~ at least it is for me me me !!!!! So here it is ~ just a rhythm track I'd made over the last couple of days ~ in order to acclimate myself with all the new toys I now have at my disposal . . . I'll be writing lots of new lyrics as well as new music ~ for both of my upcoming projects ~ the follow-up to my debut CD now available on Moiko Records ~ it's a new concept album I've been (Ben) working on for over a year & a half ~ as well as the awesome new version of The Altruistic Messiah's latest touring band ~ a line up consisting of life long friends & a few of the most amazingly talented new individuals I have just recently had the honor to become associated with ! I am always wishing each & every one of you the very best ~ & this continues to be the primary focus of any & all communication between us as individuals ~ it is my belief that this concern is fundamental in the advancement of humanity ~ & that this is the reason we are alive ~ that this is what we are living for ~ as human nature must transcend into something greater than it ever has been (Ben) ~ as every single one of us collectively evolve into everything we are destined to realize ~ & we must leave no man or woman behind ~ STOP WAR ~ I know I go way off the beat & path often ~ but I love everyone !!!!!! Peace, Ben P.S. PLease don't forget to attend my CD Release Party at the Rainbow Bar & Grill on the Sunset Strip ~ It starts at 3:00 P.M. November 1st & of course YOU ARE INVITED !
