NoNuke.org Asks everyone to stand up and challenge new nuclear plants, their outrageous costs and dangers!! Posted at 5:05 PM Nov 18, 2008 view more
Nonuke.org works together with a network of national and international like-minded organizations and activists dedicated to educating the public about the dangers of uranium mining, nuclear power and nuclear proliferation and how it affects humanity daily and in the long term.
We promote and support the funding of all forms of renewable and sustainable energy for future use of power generation, the decentralization of energy and the profit driven motives of Big Energy and the corporate governmental handouts/loan guarantees and increases in advanced ratepayer fees they need to build nuclear power plants because Wallstreet refuses to fund and insure them due to the extreme risk and financial burden.
We work against the taking of environmentally sensitive lands/water sheds for the building of new nuclear power plants and the re-licensing of dangerous old and worn out nuclear reactors.
PLEASE PARTICIPATE IN ALL ACTIONS ON THIS WEBSITE!!
"I'll be philosophical. Until about two billion years ago, it was impossible to have any life on earth; that is, there was so much radiation on earth you couldn't have any life — fish or anything. Gradually, about two billion years ago, the amount of radiation on this planet and probably in the entire system reduced and made it possible for some form of life to begin... Now when we go back to using nuclear power, we are creating something which nature tried to destroy to make life possible... Every time you produce radiation, you produce something that has a certain half-life, in some cases for billions of years. I think the human race is going to wreck itself, and it is important that we get control of this horrible force and try to eliminate it... I do not believe that nuclear power is worth it if it creates radiation. Then you might ask me why do I have nuclear powered ships. That is a necessary evil. I would sink them all. Have I given you an answer to your question?"
~ Admiral Hyman Rickover, the Father of the Nuclear Navy and Shippensport nuclear reactor on the hazards of nuclear power...
From his testimony to Congress in the twilight of his career (28 January 1982); published in Economics of Defense Policy: Hearing before the Joint Economic Committee, Congress of the United States, 97th Cong., 2nd sess., Pt. 1 (1982). ..
Given who this man was and what he did, his statements were profound and 'eye-opening' for all and for pro-nukers to say the least.
"I refuse to accept the cynical notion that nation after nation must spiral down a militaristic stairway into the hell of nuclear destruction. I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality." ~ Martin Luther King Jr.
The continued possession, further development, and manufacture of nuclear weapons by the United States undermines the ethical basis of our society, breaks treaties our nation has signed, wastes our nation's wealth, and permanently contaminates our environment, while providing no real contribution to U.S. national security.
In fact, implicit and explicit nuclear threats by the U.S. undermine global efforts to halt proliferation of not just nuclear weapons, but all weapons of mass destruction. Neither can our nuclear facilities ever be made fully secure from accident, internal sabotage, theft, or attack. New Mexico's two nuclear weapons labs lead the world in spending for weapons of mass destruction. But as the labs have grown, our state's relative economic standing has declined and now trails almost all other states.
We therefore call upon our elected leaders to:
Stop the design and manufacture of all nuclear weapons, including plutonium bomb cores ("pits") at Los Alamos and elsewhere.
Dismantle our nuclear arsenal in concert with other nuclear powers, pursuant to Article VI of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty. As the most powerful nation on earth, the U.S. must take the first steps in this process.
Halt disposal of nuclear waste at Los Alamos, as thousands of citizens and dozens of environmental organizations have already requested.
We demand quite different priorities: affordable health care for everyone, better education, renewable energy, and economic opportunity for those who have none. We call for investment in our people and families, in our economy and environment, instead of in preparation for nuclear war.
STOP THE LEVY COUNTY LAND GRAB OF AGRICULTURAL AND ENVIRONMENTALLY SENSITIVE LANDS FOR NUCLEAR POWER!
Progress Energy in Pinellas County, FL has "scouted" 3,000 acres of land in southern Levy county as a potential site for a new Nuclear Power Plant in the name of needing more energy for Florida. This can be accomplished by using more efficient methods, appliances, and renewable alternatives such as solar(Citizenre), wind and hydrogen (windhunter.org), biomass, tidal power, etc... instead of the more costly, dangerous, and risky choice of nuclear power.
New Rules Could Lead To More Nuclear Energy Plants
By LLOYD DUNKELBERGER
In a move that could provide more financial incentive for building nuclear power plants, the Florida Public Service Commission on Tuesday adopted new rules that will let investor-owned utility companies recover some of the costs of the new plants before they begin operation.
FPL gets go-ahead to charge for future nuclear power plant
By Kristi E. Swartz
Florida Power & Light Co. hopes to build another nuclear plant in Florida by 2018, but the utility's customers likely will be paying for that plant long before it starts producing electricity.
Florida allows FPL to collect surcharge to help pay for new nuclear plants
By Joseph Mann
State regulators Tuesday adopted new rules that allow investor-owned utilities like Florida Power & Light Co. to recover planning and preconstruction costs of nuclear power plants before the facilities go into operation.
Contact Florida PSC Commissioners and tell them that these rules are NOT in the best interest of the ratepayers, should be repealed immediately, and that we DO NOT want anymore Nuclear Power Plants...EVER!!:
April 26th, 2006 was the 20th anniversary of the most horrific nuclear accident in history, when the Chernobyl reactor in Ukraine blew up during a routine test, blasting the 1,000-pound roof of the main reactor building into the air and spreading radioactive waste over much of the northern part of the country and nearby Belarus. Some parts of the Chernobyl region will be contaminated with hazardous levels of radioactivity for 100 years or more, and residents have suffered from high levels of cancerous tumours and other birth defects. Photographer Robert Knoth has documented some of the victims in a photo essay. To see more, click on the picture.
CHERNOBYL LEGACY
By Paul Fusco
On April 26th, 1986, Chernobyl's Reactor No. 4 unleashed a thoroughly modern plague that emptied cities, condemned entire regions, and seeped invisibly into the bodies of those exposed to it's destructive presence.
Photographer Paul Fusco faces the dark legacy of Chernobyl, focusing on the horrifying human consequences of the event that is now 20 years into the past. Fusco's work forces us to remember an important nightmare, that we would forget at the peril of our morality and our future.

Please take the time to go to the following website and sign a petition requesting that the US Congress investigate the Nuclear Regulatory Commission
The NRC is racing forward to build as many as 50 new nuclear power plants without adequate consideration of important safety issues they have known about for at least 20 years relating to counterfeit/substandard in at least 70 existing US power plants. Once again the American people are not being told the truth by the current administration about a very important issue after secret meetings Cheney had with energy representatives led to the planned expansion and decreased safety standards. These relaxed standards will permit use of lower quality parts in new and existing plants to save the nuclear industry money. Available information indicates that at least two of the proposed new plants are being planned for central Florida. Please forward this e-mail to as many people as possible and ask that they also sign the petition. We are alerting media and elected officials about this issue and signatures are very important.
The Petition was recently revised to be sent to the new Congressional leadership and just placed on the website that is listed below so we need as many signatures as possible:

Hello ~ thank you for being a friend of Moonwarriors. 800 dogs & cats are killed every hour in the US, often by inhumane methods such as gassing or heart sticking. This cruel disposal of homeless & stray animals is paid for by your taxes. Sponsors of petitions promoting no-kill alternatives have shown that it would be more cost effective & humane to fund spay-neuter programs, adoption schemes & sanctuaries.
"What is unconscionable, abominable and outrageous is that animals, healthy and well-behaved, are being killed because someone says there are too many. That is something we do not accept. That is something we find intolerable" - Richard Avanzino, President, San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (1997)

Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001
Where traditions are not so rare; Sea, country and works scent the air; A multitude of monuments, Planted tubs and patterned pavements.
The longish pedestrian malls; The remnants of defensive walls; Historic buildings are a gauge Of the respect for heritage.
Wheat, rape and pines in the fields; Estuaries guarded by shields; Long sandy beaches and wide scenes; Romantic-ruin go-betweens.
Rivers in parts licked by trees, Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries, And crossed by practical delights - Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.
Fine churches headed at Durham; Football kits ad infinitum; Kept castles - one for study; Masonry behind masonry.
And, with moulding-works out that way, It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?

Poem 2 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): WALKABOUT WITH MY PEN
Once drove an old sedan, up north, From a place in Sydney to Cairns; Then to Kuranda I went forth, By train, to look without set plans.
I browsed through the trendy market, With fresh fruits of tropical kind; Walked to the creek through lush thicket - Nature’s hand giving peace of mind.
I dined in a scenic cafe; Then, outside, as I wrote for yen, Some passing Kooris called-out: “Hey, You go walkabout with your pen.”
Request or question, I don’t know - Assured voices, elderly men. That’s now several years ago, And I’ve seen the world - with my pen.
All the truths of all the worlds are written all around us. Their manifestations
permeate the natural, the spiritual and all walks of life. And they
carry surprising answers to life's most profound questions~* All the truths of all the worlds are written all around us. May we understand and embrace each other~*
