Obscure Devotion was born back in june 1996 in Potenza (Lucania - South Italy) by the hands of Cabal Dark Moon and Renato Copertino, both 16 years old.
A month later Kobalt Black Sky entered the lineup as bass player and after another month Renato leaved.

Obscure Devotion recorded his first DEMO tape "Dark Melodies For Sunset" in november 1997, with the help of Walter Basile (from Black Sunrise) on the drum sequencer. The demo, pressed in just 100 copies, got the interest of Elegy Records from Italy that offered the band a n. 2 albums record deal.

"Son Of A Dayless Night", the first full-length, was recorded in 1998 and released in 1999. The album got very good reviews on fanzines and magazines like, for example, Grind Zone, Metal Hammer and the like, but, due to the really poor promotion and an out of contest artwork made up by the label itself, the band got many problems of distribution and selling's.
(Basically, the artwork was much close to a Power Metal band than a Black Metal one... Far away from the OD's musician's ideas.)

OD started playing some live shows to promote the hard work did in the studio and so the first dates appeared along with the one at the 5th Agglutination Metal Fest.

Unfortunately after some months, Walter left OD without communicating any motivation so, with no drummer, the live activities of the band were putted on ice.

In may 2000 Cabal decided to cancel the deal with Elegy Rcs and focus on the songwriting for the 2nd album while still looking for an experienced drummer to take aboard.

This quest lasts untill march 2002 when Sandro "Zander Furious Storm" Laurenzana (from Death Metal band Undertakers) joined OD as permanent drummer. Together again as a three piece, the band restarted to play regularly.

In april 2004 OD enter the Temple Of Noise studio for the 2nd album promo recordings with the aim to find a new record deal. Meanwhile the relationship between Cabal and Kobalt turned bad because of many reasons also concerning Kobalt's lack of seriousness.

In may 2005 Zander leaves OD due to some job-related problem and, once again, the band was blocked. Stressed by this hard-to-sustain situation, leader Cabal Dark Moon (who was however forced to work alone for almost 6 years composing music, lyrics, arrangements, designing artworks and keeping contacts) decided to ask Gionata "Thorns" Potenti (from Black Metal bands Handful Of Hate and Frostmoon Eclipse) to record drums for the long awaited 2nd album (it was ready since 2001). Thorns accepts.

In october 2005, finally, "...Of Darkness, Death And Faith" album has been recorded at Big Wave studio. Cabal, once the recordings were finished, decided finally to fire Kobalt because of the clear last's too different artistic views and carelessness about the band.

In december 2006 The Oath Rcs releases the band's 2nd album that receives good reviews and great support from the fans. Cabal thinks to come back immediately on stage but, ONCE AGAIN, Thorns, too busy with the other bands in which he plays, leave OD without drummer just after the appereance with OD at the Potentiae Ira Metal night (live extreme gig organized by Cabal himself and Mancan from band Ecnephias) (!!!)

In october 2008: Cabal decides to remain the one and only member of OD planning to record also bass and drums for the new forthcoming band's release that will be enterely dedicated to the memory of his brother Alessandro, dead at the age of 26 in a car accident caused by a drunk driver.

The next and 3rd album will be entitled "Ubi Certa Pax Est" and actually Cabal is working on the songwriting and on the release of an EP with two new songs.
