'Impressive indie style rock'...Smart alternative rock in the great British rock tradition...An eclectic wagon of indieness being pulled by two reliable horses, one called 'Rock', the other 'Tunes'.. Bitchin' indie rock with pop 'issues' basically..
Pearly were a British alternative indie rock band with pop issues. Hailing from Hertfordshire via London they described themselves as ‘an eclectic bandwagon of indieness being pulled by two reliable horses, one called Rock the other Tunes’.
With an array of influences brought to the band from all members, Pearly exhibited an unusual depth in song writing. They coupled interesting lyrical themes with classic melodies creating songs imbued with a sense of hope that stay with the listener.
With an approach to making music that started and ended with the essence of the song, you might hear many things in their music: a blatant love of 90s alternative rock, classic rock leanings, flirtations with pop punk, lo-fi, funk or jazz stylings, references to great 80s cinema.. maybe even evidence of dangerous forays into the record collection of Patrick Bateman from American Psycho.. you’re probably right and this is what makes Pearly so special.
Live, Pearly veered from bombastic rock assault to moments of subtle beauty, often during the same song. In the words of A Musical Priority, ‘Let Pearly into your world now otherwise you could end up regretting it for the rest of your life.’
Members of Pearly now play in The Interventions:
