Punk Shit Records started in 2001 to release a 7'' by Birmingham,(England) Streetpunx Dogshit Sandwich which turned out to be a split 7'' with Hippy War Generals from Melbourne(Australia) Also planned was a compilation called Punk Shit Volume 1. These two releases took plenty of money to make and it looked unlikely that the label would release anything else for ages but Runnin Riot wanted to do a split 7'' which was with briliant new German punx Tower Blocks and this was too good to turn down so the cash was found and it became the first split release with another label which was what the label was built ..wards, from then on allmost all the releases have been split releases or have had outside cash going into them (for anyone starting a label this is a great way to make things easier). The label did 25 releases.
The label was very diy, this phrase means different things to different people,to some diy is cdr and paper cut n paste booklet,nothing wrong with that format but it's hard to trade a lot of the time and this label's distribution was tradeing. I looked at distribution companies but they are after all companies and companies are all about capital first and for me and my direction for this label music was the most important thing, getting people a good quaility music product at a reasonable price is what it's all about. This label is proof that this is possible, you can pick up these releases,and the distro stock at a fraction of the costs of most shops,yet the label makes a small amount of money to go back into new releases so if I can sell cheap and still make what are those rip off bastards making??
