Re: Ripe's Self-Titled CD 2008 "Together, the band creates a tight-sounding unit that has created a sound and style all it’s own."
"If you like rock bands that know how to jam, then Lancaster, Pennsylvania’s Ripe is a band to check out, and their new album is something you need to hear."
"Jamming can be a way of describing the feel of a band that gets on stage and just lets the feeling of the music take over.
This description of “jamming” is a good way of looking at the feel of the music that is produced by Lancaster, Pennsylvania-based band, Ripe."
"With the different influences and styles that go into the band’s sound, they have a wide range of songs that make up their playlist. And with the wide variety in Ripe’s playlist, the self-titled CD by the band features as many different styles in the songs that have been recorded to create the album. Some of the strongest tracks on the CD include: Little Bit of Living, So Long Candy Mountain, and With."
"Ripe’s sound is unusual...It’s like Shooter Jennings tried to ghostwrite a new Sublime album, but was kidnapped halfway through tracking by all 83 members of Rusted Root."
"The jaminess isn’t the self-indulgent, 14-minute-song kind. It’s more in the band’s vibe, a barefoot, smoking-a-pipe-on-the-back-porch aesthetic that gives even Ripe’s rocking-est tunes a breezy shuffle."
Ripe is an indie/roots rock band hailing from Lancaster, PA. After a lengthy summer tour and successful 3rd annual local music/arts/food festival, Ripefest, the band put their focus on recording their second album, "Red Fox Reunion." The title was inspired by a unique venue Ripe played during a stop in Vermont on their "Fresh Picking Tour" in 2008.
"Red Fox Reunion" is the follow-up to Ripe’s debut, self-titled album. Ripe sought to create a diverse, more in-depth, cohesive approach to songwriting on this album, while maintaining the roots-based sound they are so well-known for. On "Red Fox Reunion" the sextet took this idea to the studio by using more sounds from instruments such as the melodica, glockenspiel, violin, poly-synthesizers, Hammond Organ, and the pedal-steel guitar. "Red Fox Reunion" is available now and can be purchased at CI Records and digitally.
Hitting the scene in 2007, Ripe's vine grew quickly as they recorded and independently released 2007's "Fresh From The Vine: Live at the Chameleon Club." With the continued goal to spread the music, Ripe built their fan base and in February 2008 released their self-titled debut studio album. Ripe would go on to play over 100 shows in 7 states in 2008 in support of their debut album, and while on the road they were continually crafting new material for their second album. Ripe continued touring and received ample play on various college and independent radio stations, while even receiving play on a local Clear Channel owned radio station! Ripe has recently been selected to showcase at the LAUNCH Music Conference, as well as be featured on the Music For Everyone compilation CD Vol. 2.
Ripe is sure to create big waves in the music scene with the release of "Red Fox Reunion." With an ever-growing schedule, so too will Ripe's vine grow! Be sure to check out the new songs from the upcoming album right here. With influences ranging from Wilco to the Kings of Leon, Sublime to Rusted Root, The Magic Numbers, and the Beatles, it's no wonder Ripe's sound is so unique. As Editor-in-Chief of Fly Magazine, Jeff Royer puts it, "This diversity is Ripe's biggest strength, turning what might otherwise be a batch of perfectly fine, middle-of-the-road rock tunes into something artful. But, it's more in the band's vibe, a barefoot, smoking-a-pipe on-the-back-porch aesthetic that gives even Ripe's rocking-est tunes a breezy shuffle!"
