Bio
"...performances that enchant surprise and ineffably capture the imagination. Riley's lyrics and Donald's music seem to flow together in a single flood of invention..." -- Jazzwise Magazine Sirena Riley started her first night in London by opening a Time Out magazine and going to the first jazz open mic session she could find. Australian pianist and composer, Tom Donald was the house pianist. They were introduced over a spine-tingling, room-silencing performance of Duke Ellington's ‘Solitude’ that startled even the performers. After eying each other suspiciously, they agreed that a collaboration was inevitable. Two years later, their first single, 'Half Moon' was a semi-finalist in the 2008 UK Songwriting competition and featured on All About Jazz as a Video of the Day. Sirena’s debut album, The Lunatic, The Lover and The Poet is available on Sirena and Tom’s own label, Remigrant Records, heralding what Jazzwise Magazine calls "a formidable writing partnership". An Ellington tune was a fitting platform given that Sirena grew up in a suburb of Washington, DC, birthplace of that illustrious composer. She began singing in choirs as a child and later contributed vocals for several DC bands. She settled on jazz because as she says, “it’s delicious.” She split for London after meeting several skillful, inspired artists based in Europe and the UK. She felt at home among them, and knew instinctively that London was where she belonged. Sirena also extended her talents to voice over projects and radio broadcasting with a series on UrbanJazz Radio which was profiled in Jazz UK magazine. IndieSpin was a unique long-form program where Sirena interviewed London-based musicians from all genres of modern jazz and improvisation. In just a short time on the air, Sirena spoke with multi-award winning saxophonist, Tony Kofi and singer/songwriter/pianist Estelle Kokot. Sirena also made her debut both as a vocalist and presenter at the 2010 London Jazz Festival, narrating 'Strayhorn the Songwriter,' a Billy Strayhorn tribute produced by Alex Webb at the Southbank Centre's Queen Elizabeth Hall featuring the Frank Griffith Nonet with vocalists China Moses and Alexander Stewart. Behind the mic on stage, or on the air, Sirena Riley is an exciting new voice in modern jazz. Hello, thanks a lot for your support here
Perhaps you want to know something more about my person and my art-work:
PranaBoy is an independent one-man company. Not profit-driven. Just for being myself.
I'm an artist since 20 years, doing my own unique art, design and fashion.
Since two years i'm trying to promote special style via the internet,
spreading some cosmic vibrations out to the world.
I think myspace is a great place to find people, who are interested in some really special art works...
this kind of Tee-Design is more...minimalistic symbolic communication without the borders of language...
open minded expressions in an individual way of creativity
So what do you think...please give me a little help:
Comment on some of my designs here, would be great to know, what artworks are the most wanted.
All the best...Sven / PranaBoy
