Bio
instinct of survival was originally founded back in 1995 as sperrzone and started with typical german rough punk. the former line then was hauke, kalle, padde and menge! after a few years of boozing and playing we kicked menge and decided to continue as a three piece band and we also changes our musical style into crustpunk, after a while of playing that crustpunk we began playing grindcore in the original way like napalm death did on their scum lp. nowadays we play the classical stenchcore with a lot of 80ies uk influences! the line up is now: hauke, padde, kalle and pacik. -
Members
KALLE - 6 strings and vocals PADDE - 6 strings and vocals HAUKE - sticks and skins PACIK - bass and boozing -
Influences
well our influences lie in the 80ies uk crust and stenchcore! by such bands as ANTISECT, DEVIATED INSTINCT, AMEBIX, CONCRETE SOX, EXTREME NOISE TERROR, AXEGRINDER, DOOM, RUDIMENTARY PENI, DISCHARGE... and last but not least SIOUXSIE AND THE BANSHEES, THE CURE, JOY DIVISION, BAUHAUS, THE SISTERS OF MERCY, KILLING JOKE, DEPECHE MODE, DAVID BOWIE... VENOM, BATHORY, CELTIC FROST, SODOM, KREATOR... -
Sounds Like
"instinct of survival - north of nowhere...south of somewhen" LP an exeptional dose of nine burly, AMEBIX-style stench-core tracks from germany. there..s full-gallop hardcore pace that never reached by those grandfathers of the style, and this owes just as much debt to late-80s peaceville-style head-crushing. it..s refreshing to hear this largely mid-tempo metallic crust style revived so well - wicked dual vocals scowl bleak lyrics about the state of mankind and the world, in tandem with doomy, heavy riffs that fly fast and furious. mid-tempo epic metallic doom riding, total dreadlock headbanging. you..ll find yourself covered in cider and you haven..t even flipped the record over the second side. nice recording, acoustic bridges, seagull noises, gatefold sleeve with lyrics and a nice large foldout poster. crustacular!! totally recommended! (KS) (bolzkow)" maximum r..n..r 08.09-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- INSTINCT OF SURVIVAL "North of Nowhere" I'd heard the advance tracks, but nothing prepared me for this: nine hymns of misanthropic nihilism, unmatched in the present landscape of underground music. I would have no qualms in saying that this in the best European crust record of the decade. It's got the brutal-as-fuck atmosphere of the early Death Metal ala Autopsy, Entombed or Death, crossed with the aggressive fuck-off riffing of Deviated Instinct, Sepultura or Hellbastard and the miserable, chained to oblivion sound aesthetics of Amebix and Axegrinder. With riffs that nearly fucking snap your neck and a guitar sound both blunt and bludgeoning, simultaneously raw and cutting, the axe is at the forefront of these songs. The vocals are snarls of loathsome desperation, the production simply immaculate. The drumming is martial and pounding, adding depth and contour to what are essential simple Thrash riffs, yet the key to this is simplicity in execution and complexity in structure and composition. The self titled track is unlike anything I've heard in crust for years, whilst the venomous barbarity and razor-sharp guitars of 'Human?' and 'Suffocation' are simply incredible. Fucking monolithic: get this now 5/5 Cormac O'Siochain (Review from Zero Tolerance July/Aug'09) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- INSTINCT OF SURVIVAL 'North Of Nowhere... South Of Somewhen' Everything you need to know about this album you can get from the cover. Unleashing a muscular charge of '80s crossover nihilism, drawing so heavily from the UK's apocalyptic crust/metal infantcy that they're in danger of losing their German citizenship. Beginning life as a straight up grindcore band, there's a real sense of honesty in their pitch-perfect musical devolution to riffing Deviated Instinct/Axegrinder brand stenchcore. Punk's rotting corpse has been well and truly reanimated. James Hoare (Terrorizer Magazine) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Vagabonds crusties from Germany INSTINCT OF SURVIVAL keep always brutal image. Sometimes they look like half-dead. Always drunk and always fucking great music!!! When i see them before gig i'm very skeptic..., too drunk, it cannot be good... and always they are one of the best bands playing. And of course the same situation today. When you hear the first tone you have to know they are I.O.S. I fucking love their sound. Stench core. I don't know what it is, but for me it's something like old slower Napalm Death without bast parts. I liked their gig a lot. Long songs, but the inner tension of their songs is fucking inimitable. One of the best bands of this festival, although the new very looooong song was really too long for me, ahhah." review from that play fast or don..t thingy... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ..
