See also www.myspace.com/lookalikes.usa for Steve's duo with Alex Wolf, and more songs.

Recently, Steve played on a bunch of recordings by the fabulous Sprinkle Genies. Check 'em out! Steve is now producing several songs for their next album, and seems to be evolving into a sometimes 6th member of the band.

Steve also plays piano on songs at the myspace page of: Tom Warnick and the World's Fair, a great band. (Tom is the guitarist on "Bumbling Along.") Steve was a longtime member of the magical, fondly remembered Dan Emery Mystery Band.

A bit of a band slut, Steve has also played keys and/or electric tennis racket on NYC gigs and/or recordings of The Moldy Peaches ("Jorge Regula"), Sport Murphy, Amy X Neuberg, Peter Dizozza, Debby Schwartz, Dan Fishback, cub, Lisa Marr, and Dallam Dougou, to name a mere few.

For a recent stretch, Steve played piano for The Teenage Prayers. And the offshoot gospel oriented offshoot of the Prayers and Steve Wynn, Hazel Motes. Steve toured Europe extensively with Steve Wynn in the olden days. Steve and Malcolm Rollick improv'd together rather magically at one of her shows, and the song, "Don't Stop Reading Me the News" is on her myspace page if you click on her name, 30 words ago.

Steve does not know why one of his songs has magically stopped working on myspace. Time to put something new there, maybe.
InfluencesThe Naugahide Henchmen; The Peptide Bondsmen; The Personality Disorderers; The Super Elastic Bubble Plastic Revival Snorters; The Haliburton-Hired Snipers, Afghanistan Office (a negative, working-against sort of influence, to be sure); The Post-Neo-Now Quartet featuring The Future Retroists; The Singaporean Gum Chewers. Also Biff Rose, The International Antifolk Community, The Mommyheads, The Dan Emery Mystery Band, The Sprinkle Genies, The Roches, XTC, Mo Tucker, Sly and the Family Stone, Debby Schwartz/The Aquanettas, Harm Farm, The Holy Modal Rounders, The Fugs, The Shaggs, Rip Smops, The Shangri La's, Duke Ellington, Mary Lou Williams, Fatses Domino and Waller, Daniel Johnston, Brian Wilson, Citizen Helene, Fishbone, Sonya Hunter, Thelonious Monk, Dwight Do Peterson, Irma Thomas, The Kinks, Sun Ra, Kelly Kiyomi Caulk, Ben Hume, Steve Wynn and the Miracle Three, Stereolab (circa 1994), Peter Dizozza, Danny Kirwan, Elizabeth Cotten, Spike Jones, Mississippi John Hurt, Keith Moon, The Moldy Peaches, Jonathan Richman, Rowlf, Bionic Finger, Jimi Hendrix, Amy X. Neuburg, Charles Mingus, Jessica Kane, Fletcher Henderson (Don Redman era), Buddy Holly, Jeffrey Lewis, Manuel De Falla, Bing Crosby w/ The Mills Brothers (early 1930's), Dina Dean, Lou Christie, The Dixie Hummingbirds, Kimya Dawson, Chuck Berry, The Beatles, cub/Lisa Marr, Sport Murphy, Mary Ann Farley, Alex Wolf, Little Richard, Lach, Arthur Lee/Love, Smokey Robinson, Elyse Weinberg, Leadbelly, and several others.
Sounds LikeIt's a Fats-Waller-shares-a-pipe-with-Brian-Wilson- while-Marianne-Moore-buys-insurance-from-Wallace-Stevens- and-Isabella-Rossellini-eyes-Stanley-Tucci-in-Big-Night sort of hybrid.

   About Steve Espinola
I have a fetish for discarded sound technologies and discarded conceptions of rhythm. I do my best to be good to people, including myself. Sometimes I succeed, sometimes I fail. I have not yet made friends with Time. I tend to spread myself thin.

It is rumored that I am the subject of the Moldy Peaches' song "Jorge Regula." I played keyboards on the recording of the song.

I started an online community for record cutting deviants called The Secret Society of Lathe Trolls. It has developed a life of its own and mostly I act as the janitor.

Right now I am working with a bunch of people in my neighborhood & we are fighting against a corrupt skyscraper/arena project. http://www.dddb.net

I am hungry.

If you want to add me, write me a note, or I may assume you are spam. I don't like spam, but I do like real people.

Hi,

I'm happy to announce that my new album "Songs From The Films Of David Lynch" is out now.

"Truly unsettling and perplexingly brilliant... testament to both the quality of Lynch’s soundtracks and Truax’s talents" - The Skinny

"Truax is paying homage to a kindred spirit with this album. It's the best kind of tribute – affectionate and respectful, but with its own quirks and imaginative leaps and its own distinct identity." -The Scotsman

"Great stuff." -Buzz Magazine
