   About Steve Justman

"There's an intimacy at a place where Steve is playing, that I think really enhances the entertainment experience."

Rick Kogan - WGN Radio and The Chicago Tribune

Singer, troubadour, musician, entertainer, caretaker of songs. Steve Justman has been performing Americana music in the Chicago area for many years. Whether it be folk, country, country rock, or bluegrass, you will hear a taste of all of it in Steve's music. A bit of a throwback to a different time, perhaps. Steve's number one priority is entertaining his audience! Once upon a time folk music was extremely popular and a folksong could sell a million records. Many, many songs became folkmusic standards. At the same time, country music was not very popular, but many songs became standards either by the original artists or by many others who recorded them. This recipe, with a dash of bluegrass and country rock, is the premise behind Steve Justman's Vintage folk/Classic Country. A promoter of a very long running folk music venue found it refreshing to "go to a folk music concert and actually know many of the songs." Known to many musicians in the area for his guitar, banjo, bass, and vocal abilities, Steve was a founding member of the Pony Express Band, a popular country-rock band on Chicago’s north side and northwest suburbs. Steve has performed and entertained in many of the best folk and acoustic venues in the Chicago area such as The Two Way Street Coffee House, Bill's Blues, Uncommon Ground, Charlie’s Coffee House, and the Heartland Café, as well as concerts in many public libraries and special events for appreciating people of all ages. Steve has performed and appeared live on WGN radio on Rick Kogan’s Sunday Papers show as well as WDCB's Folk Fest with Lilli Kuzma. Some say he has found a perfect blend of Americana: Vintage Folk & Classic Country, and he is always known to work hard to entertain his audience.

Hey Steve. My wife says I have two many guitars. That's not possible. I love my '68 J45. I have an 84 HD28 Martin that I bought new and it looks like Willie Nelson has been playing it. It's my Bluegrass/ Fiddle accompaniment guitar of choice. I love your profile pic. Looks like your fixin to hop a train and ride. Cool. Enjoyed your Down Home Music. Have a great day. Danny Z

I've seen the footage of Hendrix setting fire to his guitar, but never met anyone that was there. It's an honour to have you amongst my friends. Keep in touch Steve.

Thanks for the add.

You may like to check out my recently released book - 100 Great Albums.
It's a 220 page review of the best music recorded during the period 1965-08 featuring the Beatles,Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Sex Pistols, Joy Division, U2, Nirvana, Radiohead, the Strokes and many more!

My aim is to prolong the existence of something close to my heart, something currently under severe threat from the download generation - The Album! With the modern world increasingly more interested in cherry-picking individual tracks, it seems to me a great shame that the sacred long-player is losing its importance. I'm on a mission to save the album before it's too late. ether new or old to the scene, can appreciate the importance of that.

If you click on the button below you can access further details about the book (including an option to preview some of the content) before deciding whether you want to buy. All the best Andy.

Hope the weather's improving for you way up there in the Windy City Steve. I got a chance to see Hot Club of Cowtown last weekend too. That guy can play them swing chords on his Gibson archtop like ringin' a bell.
And of course I'm in love with Elana!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the add, and the nice comment. My intent was not to criticize so much as to encourage originality and proper acknowledgement of those who have gone before. Your idea of keeping the fun in folk music is sound and good, and I wish more people would remember that. My view is that the sneaky bastards who make fun, political, folk music of any kind are the very best. Hope to meet you in the future.
Best wishes, --DAN

Howdy Steve,
Funny that "Satisfied Mind" showed up as the first song I heard on your sight. I was just working on a very different arrangement of it myself. Love that song.

Play on,

Hi, Steve!

Thank you very much for your friendship request--it's good to see you on MySpace! Welcome to my page.

I've always enjoyed "Jenny Dreamed of Trains"--reminds me of the things I liked back during a very non-traditional girlhood.

Take care, and safe travels.

Lyrically yours,
Candy
