SURPRISE WASP RETURNS Remember Surprise Wasp? Of course you do. Though it's not often the greatest band in the universe takes 10 months off to write their debut full-length masterpiece, leaving a vast fan-base aimless and distraught, with only the critically worshipped EP Throwing Shapes & Taking Names to keep them warm at night. Well, now the party's back on – put down that toaster and step away from the bathtub. Sydney's finest purveyors of authentic punk'n'roll step back into the limelight, adjust their exquisite hair and kick your goddamn arse once again. With the addition of distinguished bass playing big-wheel Nicky Steps (a move akin to the acquisition of Dennis Rodman by the 95-96 Chicago Bulls Championship team, proving you can improve upon perfection) the four-piece have expanded their winning formula, co-opting compulsory foot-tapping elements of blues, garage and surf-rock. Led by viper-tongued front-dude Dean Podmore and rounded out by the power-chord fury of Myles Green and non-stop tub-thumpery of steel-eyed lothario Paul Tooth, Surprise Wasp stride the red carpet once again to bring their plutonium-charged live show to the finest speak-easys and dancing halls in Australia in 2011. The resurrection begins this July, providing audiences with a narrow but much needed window to practice applauding raucously, writhing with ecstasy and hiding signs of visible arousal. -
