Sounds Like
A variety of bands are associated with our label. Some genres suggested include surf, garage, indiepop, electronica, art punk, others.
Smokers Die Younger return with their first release since the brilliant, critically acclaimed, debut album X Wants The Meat back in 2006.
In the interim Smokers Die Younger have been the subjects of some bizarre fashion world sponsorship in the form of Karl Lagerfeld! Not bad for the scruffiest band in South Yorkshire. Add to that a couple of line-up changes and it's no wonder we've had to wait for a new record. But it's been worth it. A-side Sketchpads is their love song to the humble 4-track tape recorder, wrapped up in skewed guitar noise and with that all-important pop sensibility. As the lyric says:
We had four tracks and that was more than enough.
The b-side is a bombastic reworking of SDY's;Yer Actual by Ross Orton (MIA, Fat Truckers, Jarvis Cocker) & Sophie Toes. Mosh yer beard off!

The Bon Bon Club 7" OUT NOW
Thee SPC release a limited edition 7" single on heavyweight grey vinyl by The Bon Bon Club on the 23th June.
The Bon Bon Club are Sushi Quatro (bass, vox), Thirsty Moore (drums, vox) and Chapatti Smith (perc, vox), although Sushi and Thirsty are better known under different names for their day job as the rhythm section of Sheffield glam-popsters The Long Blondes and Chapatti also plays in Slow Down Tallahassee.
Rather than slow the songs down on acoustic guitar to show the "great songwriting" like every Jo Wiley Live Lounge indie plodder, The Bon Bons strip 'em down and rip 'em up to the real essentials; the bass and drums. This is how you do it.
The covers are The Cure's "Lullaby", Pulp's "Love is Blind" and Death from Above 1979's "Romantic Rights".

July's Americana Night plays host to Austin based US singer/songwriter Bob Cheevers as he embarks on his annual mammouth UK tour. Now whilst the traveling American singer/songwriter armed with little more than an acoustic guitar and bag of CDs to sell are ten a penny, few have the credentials of Cheevers. A multi award winning songwriter, Bob also holds the notable honour of having been asked personally by Johnny Cash to support him on what proved to be Cash's final tour. Providing backing for Bob as well as playing some songs of his own will be his fellow countryman David MacNeill. Popular local songwriter Julian Jones opens the show with songs from his forthcoming new album. Doors will be 7.45pm for an early start, and entry will be £4.
WagonWheelMedia host our next gig at The Grapes this coming Thursday June 26th. On the bill we have a trio of local talent with The Sicknotes, Dave Sleney and Hamnett. Doors open at 8pm and entry is £3.
US singer/songwriter Rachel Harrington comes to The Grapes, Sheffield, this Wednesday. Rachel will once again be backed by 'Mandolin Man' Zak Borden. Support comes from The Listeners and the Dave Sleney opens the night.
