The Wyos come from the banks of the Shannon and the banks of the Liffey, through a studio over a disused tube station in North London. If there's an Irish equivalent of Americana, then that's where we live- violins and Fender Tele's, mandolins and computers, lap steel and fx. An unhealthy obsession with alcohol and the scars of a Catholic upbringing. The ghosts of Beckett and Flann O'Brien in a drunken brawl. Or a drunken sing-song, could go either way. The grand gesture in all its futile glory, the island mentality, the never-ending guilt, and the melody, that's the main thing.
