    Did you know that the biggest difference between dolphins and porpoises is the shape of their teeth? Porpoise have a spade-shaped tooth and dolphins have a conical pointed tooth. In the following photo, tooth A is from a porpoise and tooth B is from a dolphin. So the next time you want to know whether a certain cetacean is a dolphin or a porpoise, just take a look at its teeth. Of course ask the cetacean's permission first.

    WHALE, DOLPHIN, & PORPOISE STRANDING ALERT Begins 6/11/12: Due to 2 Earth directed solar flares Earth is experiencing a geomag storm. It's caused disturbances in Earth's mag field which can disrupt cetacean communication & navigation. Loss of these abilities can lead to stranding & wrong way travel. Watch for pods/loners near coasts & waterways especially where they've stranded before. Block stranding routes with boats, barges, noise & sound pingers.     The good news: a judge ruled that SeaWorld has to put a wall between their captive killer whales aka Orca dolphins & trainers. The bad news: the amount of money SeaWorld had to pay out as a fine for trainer Dawn Brancheau's 2010 death by Tilikum was too little & made no real impact on SeaWorld. That's why a judge had to make the barrier ruling. The biggest bad news: this legal activity doesn't touch the real matter at the heart of the problem - Cetaceans are non-human persons & should not be in captivity, especially as money making slaves.     Part III http://lnk.ms/c8DTy The study of Merfolk legends is one of my areas of expertise. Tho mired in ancient mythology and religions, my own Merfolk research leans to the existence of an ancient humanoid that could live on land and in the sea. Although the popular image of Merfolk is to present them as human-like from the waste up and dolphin-like from the waste down, I think it's possible that there was a race of Merfolk but that they had legs of a unique design and not cetacean tails. This would allow them to go onto the land as well as swim and live in the sea. Check your local listings for air times or internet sites that stream the show. See Parts I,II.

    Part II http://lnk.ms/c8DTy They support the theory with real world events such as the finding of a mysterious aquatic creature that resembles a human, the US Navy's use of sonar that killed cetaceans, & the 1997 mysterious and authentic undersea hugely loud 'bloop' recorded by NOAA. It originated in the Pacific, seems to be organic, & remains unidentified. I hope the show doesn't run the fairly recent hoax video of a mermaid, and claim it's real. It turned out to be a woman in a mermaid suit swimming away from the camera under water in the ocean. If they use the footage and don't say it's a hoax, that would speak volumes about the credibility of their other mater

    Part I http://lnk.ms/c8DTy Tonight Animal Planet is showing a new documentary "Mermaids: The Body Found". It explores whether Merfolk - Mermaids and Mermen - are real and not just mythological, still living today, and their existence hidden from the public. I haven't previewed the show so I don't know whether it provides compelling evidence or is much ado about nothing, but I did read the treatment and review some of the images used. In the 2-hr show the producers use dramatic re-enactments and CGI to bring to life what they theorize is evidence of Merfolk. See Parts II.III.

    Cetacean society is built on the bonds that they create thru touch, love, affection, family, friends, trust, food, play, and survival. The two bottlenose dolphins in this photo are touching mouth to mouth in a tender kiss that can mean anything from mutual reassurance to trust to acceptance into the pod to a special friendship and even love. Humans can relate to this cetacean bonding because humans also bond with other humans in similar ways. So while humans are land people, and cetaceans are sea people aka marine non-human persons, it is possible for humans and cetaceans to peacefully share planet Earth through a bond of trust and friendship.
