HUMI (Hugh Hopper & Yumi Hara Cawkwell) debut CD 'Dune' OUT NOW from MOONJUNE Please visit MOONJUNE website! http://www.moonjune.com/MJR019.htm

Dune CD cover MS

Sounds Like'Wrapped Box 25/4 Lid (with Ribbons)' based on 'Box 25/4 Lid' from The Soft Machine (1st) by Mike Ratledge & Hugh Hopper. I wrote this for Delta Saxophone Quartet's expanding repertoire of pieces by and inspired by Soft Machine, and it is 5 times as long as the original.
The video is the second half of the piece, shot during the first performance at Kettle's Yard, Cambridge on 8h Feb 2008, also includes some footage from the rehearsal and during the sound check.

Delta Saxophone Quartet:
Graeme Blevins (Soprano)
Pete Whyman (Alto)
Tim Holmes (Tenor)
Chris Caldwell (Baritone)

with

Simon Pearson (Drums)
Hugh Hopper (Bass)
Yumi Hara Cawkwell (Piano)

'Improv: Flawless and Purple Fluff', improvisation live at Songs, Isesaki, Japan, 8 September 2007. Yumi Hara Cawkwell (keyboard), MEW (drums), Ejiri (bass) and Teruhiro Shiojima (guitar). We had never performed together and no rehearsal took place prior to this performance, but all of us were pretty much informed by 72-74 KC improvisation...

Live at the Spitz, London, 16 March 2007. 'Scenes from Japanese Summer', semi-improvised vocal performance based on Japanese lullabies. The 'backing track' is pre-recorded found sound I collected during my trip in Japan: cicadas, street noise, temple bells and wind chimes...

Live at the Union Chapel, London, 13 March 2007. 'I Talk to the Wind', semi-improvised performance based on King Crimson's track from 'In the Court of the Crimson King', written by Ian McDonald & Peter Sinfield. I accompanied myself on the organ.

Live at UCSD, California, 4 April 2007. a conceptual piece 'Pears' by Carolyn Chen, performed by Reiko Manabe (flutes) and Yumi Hara Cawkwell (voice).

Although the human's feet only occupy a small part of the earth, it is by the space he does not occupy, that man can walk on the immense earth . Although human intelligence only reaches a parcel of the total truth, it is by what it does not reach, that man can understand what is the sky.
