Sounds Like
Energetic. Raw. Powerful. Melodic. Intense. Rock.
These are words that have been used to describe Algren, a fresh rock band from Chicago that has burst onto the local music scene with their unique blend of introspective lyrics, innovative guitar work, grooving rhythms and dynamic songwriting.
Algren formed in late 2006 and hit the ground running, quickly building a strong repertoire of alternative/indie rock songs. Known for their inspiringly energetic sets, Algren is quickly building up a devoted fan base with the help of various media outlets, such as Q101, 97.9 The Loop, Fearless Radio, the Red Eye, Chicago's Rock, Rock Chicago on CANTV-19, and The Local Tourist. Algren is also a member of Chicago Noise Machine, the consortium of local bands that also includes A Birdsong Valentine, Bullet Called Life, Echoson, Heavy the Fall, Lucid Ground, Reverie, 72 Hours, and Simplistic Urge.
Algren released their debut album, "A Wayward Sound Floods the Streets" in May 2009 along with an accompanying graphic novel. The story and art of the book incorporate song titles and lyrics to further explore the themes of the album, providing the perfect visual complement to the music.
More information about the band can be found through www.algrenmusic.com. Please feel free to contact the band via AlgrenMusic@gmail.com.

Algren is putting the finishing touches on our first full-length album, "A Wayward Sound Floods the Streets," and we are on pace for an April 2009 release. In conjunction with the album, we will also release a graphic novel that further explores the themes of "Wayward Sound". Algren worked with local writer Jason Hissong and Wisconsin artist Brian Defferding of Deftoons Comics to craft an original story and design influenced by the eleven songs. The album/book release show will be finalized soon. Don't miss it!

Algren has entered the studio to begin work on our first full album. We are thrilled to be working with Sam Beckley from Gremlen Studios again, this time on a project of far greater scope than our previous demo recordings. We will be writing daily blogs recapping the studio experience and recording some video blogs as well so check this site regularly for updates. We'll post some samples as soon as they become available. FYI, we are looking at late March or early April for the album release.
