Marc Anderson (drum kit, percussion) is best-known for his partnership with ECM recording artist Steve Tibbetts, which has taken him around the world. His four solo albums are just part of his career, which includes numerous producing and percussion credits, and performances with artists from Don Cherry to the Minnesota Orchestra. Marc's "fat hands," big ears, and Zen Buddhist worldview mark the beginning of an exciting new chapter in the BiL story.

Dean Magraw (guitar) engages his experienced ears in the pursuit of soaring melodies, rhythmic momentum, and expansive harmonies, while squeezing sympathetic sonorities from the palette of uber-sensitive guitar strings in service to the unity of the BiL sound.

Todd Menton (vocals, guitar, mandolin, bodhran, whistle) joined BiL soon after their 1st LP, and is the lead singer on the classic albums From the Ladle to the Grave and Orb. In the early 1990s he left the band to play solo in Irish pubs. Todd has released two solo CDs on the New Folk label, and is working on his third.

Drew Miller (bass guitar, dulcimer) founded the band in 1983, and has been to all the gigs. His solid-body electric dulcimer adds mountain-inspired drones to the mix. Drew runs the Omnium label ("world music that rocks") and works as a graphic and web designer. He's also a member of Felonious Bosch.

David Stenshoel (fiddle, saxophone) enjoys playing many different styles, from "hot club" swing to Persian classical music. An original member of the band, he left in 1990 to raise his daughter; but returned seven years later, bringing his fiddle's lyrical voice to the melodies and the improv.

   About Boiled In Lead

"...a hard-driving blend of Irish folk, punk rock, and world music ...an explosive show..." -- The Onion (March 2005)

For over 26 years, Boiled In Lead have been innovators in bringing “folk music” kicking and screaming to rock audiences (and rock music to screaming folk audiences!) BiL's many instrumental dance tunes incorporate global influences, rhythms, and melodies that are guaranteed to keep the feet moving. Original songs stick in the mind long after the music is over. The players improvise freely yet stay in sync, playing a vital mix of original and traditional material. The group and the individual musicians have won over 20 Minnesota Music Awards, and toured throughout the US and in Europe.

With the return of original lead singer Todd Menton and the addition of world-travelling eclectic instrumentalists Dean Magraw and Marc Anderson, the highly-identifiable BiL sound surges foward. Enthusiastic, powerful, technically brilliant, playing a wealth of instruments, electric and acoustic, Boiled In Lead routinely blows away labels and enchants audiences.

Hey there!!

I just wanted to stop by and say hello! I hope that this week brings you fun adventures, relaxation, and contentment :)

I was going to go camping over the weekend, but this is definitely NOT camping weather. So me and some friends went to check out Dueling Pianos. Those guys are amazing - they can play just about any song that's been on the radio between 1950 and 2005.

Anyways, I wanted to let you know about a show we have @ Station 4 on Friday, October 16th. We are debuting a series of one time only performance art pieces. This one is called "AN OBJECT TO CRAVE". Live music and visuals based on a short story about life, love, loss, fantasy, obsession and death.

Another group of mine, The Magnetrons, which plays an exciting and innovative Livetronica set (i.e. STS9, Disco Biscuits, The Histronic) will also be playing. The night will be full of creative, interesting, high-energy music, good drinks and good times.

Here's the info:

Blood Root Mother - "An Object to Crave"
w/ The Magnetrons & Thought Thieves
Friday, October 16th
Station 4
201 E 4th St

We'd love to see ya there!

Peace,
Elliot
