In the month of June, 2006…Faisal Al-Alamy posted a request for a drummer, a reply was received by Mohammed Kumkumji who joined the band…soon after Omar joined the band as the bassist. Faisal wanted to form a band of his own, a thrash metal band as he was influenced by bands such as Megadeth, Metallica, Kreator, etc.
At the start of July 2006, ¾ of the band line-up had been complete, the only remaining member, was the 2nd guitarist. It took the band around 4 months to find a proper band member who would be interested in filling the spot. Even though the band had no 2nd guitarist to fill the spot, they completed 4 songs.
In the month of October 2006, the band found an interesting person called Ahmad Khaleel, his interest in music and guitar overwhelmed the members of the band and he was chosen as a permanent guitarist. However, throughout this period, Ahmed was unable to continue as a guitarist as he was very busy with other, more important duties.
Sultan Ridwan was chosen as a guitarist and Mohamed Mudarris to play bass.
The word Octum, translated into English symbolizes darkness and death. This name really interested the band members and was chosen as a permanent name for the band.
In January 2008, Octum released their demo to the world entitled 'Fighting For Freedom'. The album received positive reviews was appreciated by the general public.
In the month of February 2008, Sami Zheiman temporarily replace Sultan Ridwan as guitarist. The temporary replacement lasted for about one month. In the beginning of March, Sultan Ridwan returned to the band as lead guitarist.
Currently the band is working on it's new album that will hopefully be out during the summer vacation.
Octum will continue to serve the Saudi metal scene and supports all the bands in the Saudi Society.
