About me:
WHAT IS A BAD DATE?
A BAD DATE is a violent and/or abusive customer in the sex industry OR it also may be anyone you have sex with or do sexual activities with in order to get drugs, food, a place to stay, protection, a ride, anything you need to get by.
The Portland Bad Date Line (PBDL) is meant for us to share and circulate descriptions of harmful people. Our hope is that someone would refer to the PBDL as a way to avoid these people and reduce risk for violence, abuse, rape, unwanted pregnancy, and hepatitis/STD and HIV transmission.
We do this by collecting bad date reports from folks in the life, on the street, in transition, sex workers, dancers, etc, etc. We also take second hand reports from outreach workers, case managers, councilors, agencies, and all manner of people who are in the business of helping those in need! And yes, it is anonymous and confidential.
Then we circulate descriptions of the bad dates in various ways:
We create a monthly sheet that we distribute all over town through the help of our many contacts. The sheet is small and easy to carry in your pocket, purse, shoe, etc.
The Portland Bad Date Line started in 1998 when a working girl told us (at outreach) about a bad date she had in a truck. We faxed his description to other agencies that served survival based prostitutes. Later that year one of our friends got hurt in-call during a private show. A group of us made a phone tree and called escorts who had ads in local adult magazines. Then the PBDL became a monthly sheet, primarily distributed through direct service agencies and in the jails. The PBDL has changed many hands and still keeps ticking. A project with heart, thank you Invisible Fringe, Sex Workers Action Group (SWAG), Danzine, and Outside In’s Syringe Exchange Program, and the Trans Identity Arts Resource Center (TIRC). We send the sheet to over 50 agencies in Oregon, mostly in the Portland Metro Area.
This is what we are not:
We are not a dating service.
We are not an escort service.
We are not a police report.
We are not a vigilante justice posse.
We are not a way to complain about an escort
that wouldn't have sex with you.
We are not a way to complain about a date you went on that sucked.
We are not a way to get back at your ex-boyfriend.

We take reports from anyone who trades. Youth and men and women and girls and trannies and grannies, any orientation and identity.
We cover every aspect of the sex trade. From folks living outside and just gettin' by, to house ho's, hustlers, dancers, fantasy models, masseuses, etc, etc, etc.
We also take second hand reports from outreach workers, case managers, counselors, agencies, and all of people who are in the business of helping those in need!
And yes, it is anonymous and confidential.
