Raw Hands Band consists of 4 Annapolitans who are no strangers in the music business. The band has been in existence for over 4 years. Raw Hands has introduced their style of raw funk improvised with a touch of psychedelic soul. The bands material includes soul, funk, jazz and blues with a rock edge. They continue to receive rave reviews from a local audience.
George “Chicky” Johnson is the founder, vocalist and lead guitarist player for the group. Influenced by the legendary style of Jimi Hendrix. The man holding the bottom with the bass is Lloyd Fowlkes, playing his own style, mainly influenced by jazz bassist, Ron Carter and the rock and blues sounds of Billy Cox. Raw Hands drummer David Queene is influenced by the rhythms of Baltimore’s, drummer Dennis Chamber’s style of odd meter syncopation, Buddy Miles heavy pocket grooves and jazz improvisation style of Tony Williams. Mack Seay, the group’s keyboardist, favors the style of the 70’s group Sly and the Family Stone.
Raw Hands Band can be seen in many citywide functions within the Annapolis and various venues throughout the Baltimore/Washington area. They carry a strong stage presence emphasized with a great spirit of improvisational feeling amongst each of the band members when playing. The bands energy also attracts an audience with a listening style of the 70s rock funk “back in the day”.
