“"Her strong, beautiful voice reminds us of Celia Humphris from Trees. Yes, she's that good" Burnham Folk Festival, 2009.
“Rosie and her trusty nylon strung guitar have been gigging around Kent and the South West for the last year, attracting quite the following. With-in ten minutes of listening to her it’s perfectly clear why. Her voice, that of a young Kate Bush tempered with the measured tones of Stevie Nicks, had passers-by pop in for a pint, and stay for several! Rosie's own songs, which she played alongside traditional folk song favourites, are infused with a sense of urgency. A balance of powerful yearning and personal reflection, all accentuated by impressive shifts from finger picking, to fluid rock-like riffs. Whether it was her inventive take on old folk favourites, such as the tale of 'Molly Bond', or her own story of doomed love in the electrifying 'The Fire', she played with passion.” Scrumpy 'n' Western, Nov. 2008, review of Rosie’s gig at The White Lion, Bradninch, Devon.
"This quiet young lady entrances and captivates an audience as she moves from a gentle folk song to a gutsy, almost rock, backing in her next song.” Milkmaid folk club, Bury St. Edmunds, 2007.
Complimented by the Irish World for her first performance in the Cambridge Folk Festival club tent back in 2002, Rosie has gone on to play folk clubs and festivals all over the country, from the very first Spanfest in July '07, after headlining Ely Folk Festival with folk-rock band Hedgepig in June, to Rochester Sweeps, GLASTONBURY FESTIVAL, Beautiful Days and Burnham Folk Festival in 2009!.
Rosie's musical background begins with classical/jazz training on alto saxophone, clarinet & piano and initial 'gigging' experiences with the Essex Youth Jazz Orchestra, before delving into an exploration of traditional folk and subsequent self tuition of guitar, violin & whistles. She wrote her first songs while still at school and progressed to playing solo in local folkclubs soon after, supporting a wealth of folk favourites, from Nancy Kerr & James Fagan and Last Night's Fun, to more recently, Martin Carthy & Dave Swarbrick, Dave Pegg & PJ Wright,
Julie Fowlis and
Nick Harper. She also guested with Hobo Jones and the Junkyard Dogs on the Levellers' 2009 UK tour.
