Hello, I'm Tom Chapman. I play percussion and drum kit. Welcome to my page and thanks for visiting.
You might say I'm a folk and jazz musician but I've spent far too long thinking it over and am much more comfortable saying that I'm extremely fortunate to spend most of my time making music with a variety of wonderful musicians from acoustic and improvising backgrounds!
My regular bands are The Old Dance School, The Urban Folk Quartet, The Bright Size Gypsies and Joe Broughton's Folk Ensemble. I've also performed and/or recorded with artists including Chris While, While & Matthews, Darren Black and The Violent Femmes.
I place the cajon at the centre of almost all the music
I play. I'm an endorser of DG Cajones and am the proud owner of an absolutely beautiful and unique instrument of North African Okume and Birch ply, made for me by Paolo De Gregorio.
"I listened to the [Old Dance School] album and realised I'd come across an absolute gem... it's absoluteley wonderful... " - Bob Harris, BBC Radio 2
"Contributing greatly to [the ODS] uniqueness is the band's secret weapon, percussionist, Tom Chapman, who hammers out some funky, enthralling rhythms on cajón and frame drum, lending an undeniably energetic appeal." - Mike Wilson, Folking.com
