About The Painted Word

The Painted Word exists only in the studio. We're not a band and we don't play live. These are my versions of songs by bands I've been into for years: Television Personalities, The Times, The Revolving Paint Dream and Felt. I've used my love for other kinds of music to influence some of the tracks. We're not a tribute band in the same way as the idiots who pretend to be The Doors or whatever. The Painted Word just slautes the songwriting genius of people like Ed Ball, who should by rights be hugely famous. But I don't try to look or sound like Ed nor Dan Treacy, and Lucie doesn't mimic Christine from The Revolving Paint Dream...in fact, she's never even heard of them! That's why Lucie's my regular session singer: she's not down with the TVPs or any of the bands I like- she works out her own harmony parts, having never heard the originals. (Arash Torabi)
