About me:

..

..

From the outset, the principle aim of Underachievers was to do things differently. We set out with no ambition larger than having an open party for like-minded indie/ alternate music lovers. Dubbed 'the best kept secret in Manchester' (myvillage.com) the night became a cult for music lovers tired of the notion that non-mainstream music made you pretentious or elitist. It could be amazingly fun, and anyone that witnessed an early days dance-off saw that we achieved this! The main strength of the night has always been the playlist and that chance to hear something you might not anywhere else.

In unlikely circumstances, the night outgrew it's first home and moved to Saki Bar, Rusholme (at the start of the curry mile). It now takes up both floors of this venue twice a month. The DJs matured and evolved with the night. 1 year old in April 2009, the night is now at the epicentre of Manchester's DIY music community. Upstairs we hold legendary indie disco's where 'requests are treated as a challenge' (PYT). Downstairs, we use to showcase the talented people of Manchester. We call it an open forum for the creative people of Manchester and host bands, guest DJs and pretty much anything we think we can get away with!

It has been noted in press such as the MEN that Underachievers has fast become 'the best place to discover the best new bands of Manchester.' We like to work with raw, original talent and give them a crowd. The band's seem to find this a refreshing alternative to the lazy line-ups and promotional demands of many long established live music venues. Most of the bands can also be regularly seen ripping it up on the Underachievers dancefloor upstairs afterwards!

As much as the night has evolved, the night has never lost what made it special in the first place. Everybody is welcome and downstairs with the open forum, anyone can be involved. Just drop us a line and we'll see what we can do. There are no ego's. We will never be anywhere near as important as the wonderful music we play, or the band's we host.

We also like dogs alot. 'Dogs are outstanding.'

Hello. Please do delete this comment if you so wish.

We're just making sure that everyone knows that our debut album 'Horses For Courses' is available to buy from our little record label's online shop:

    http://www.donttellclare.co.uk/shop.htm

Its been selling faster than we expected, and we currently only have around a quarter of our stock left - so we thought we'd better you all know that if you want a copy then now would be a good time to pick one up! If you buy it from the link above then you're buying it direct from us, the label aren't taking a cut - so its a bit like Fair Trade for struggling musicians.

International mail-order is available, just follow the instructions.

Thank you very much, and sorry for making a mess of your profile. If its any kind of consolation, we don't have a MySpace bot, so I'm leaving these comments the old fashioned way. Three -and-a-half thousand of them. My life is so exciting.

    Lots of love
    Das Wanderlust

NLF3's music has been described as "a kitsch This Heat" by The Wire, and compared for its rhythms to a 2009 version of the Ege Bamayasi-era of Can. The Guardian even spoke of them as "a Radiohead seduced by the idea of live improvisation". The members of NLF3 - F.lor, Mitch and Don Nino - name influences as varied as Pierre Henry, Fela Kuti, Steve Reich, Ennio Moricone, as well as Syd Barrett, Zappa, Fantomas, Aphex Twin, and Sonic Youth. Strange gurus indeed, for a music that, after all these comparisons, still sounds unique. NLF3 is the story of three music lovers – two brothers in blood and a third in spirit – united by the same passion: to make music, record it and take it all around the world. In that regard, their kinship with Battles and Animal Collective, with whom they have toured, seems perfectly natural - they all belong to the same generation of musicians and have the same desire to discover new territory, to explore new possibilities and to bring together past and future. It comes as no surprise either that the brothers F.lor and Don have lived in Germany as well as the US, and have spent some time in Nigeria where their father introduced them to the great Fela Kuti and others like the sculptor Twin Seven Seven. www.myspace.com/nlf3
