............ .. Best new Cork Act 2005 - Cork Independent Readers Poll... .. "At their best, they effortlessly blend noise and melody..." - Evening Echo... .. "Think Idlewild's early angular sound coupled with Fugazi's prickly dynamics...a band who have found their sound..." - Cork Independent... .. "A band capable of threading enough melodic riffs through their agressive hard rock to make it more than accessible..." - Hotpress... .. "Hope is Noise": one of the many cryptic phrases uttered over the years by Dan Breen, prolific song-scaffolder and battering ram with the Cork group, but somehow it stuck…... At the time the name just sounded good, but it actually subconsciously steered the band in a new direction. Following a brief period of early retirement, there was now a renewed enthusiasm, the songs were darker, louder, heavier, yet still packed with the trademark catchy melodies and hooks. The boys put their new sound to the test in Fred Zeppelins all those years ago now, in front of a crowd of hardened music disciples, most of whom the boys can now gratefully call fans and friends…. And thus began a new era....which included a memorable jaunt up and down the west coast of the US... The emphasis is still the same now, even in their wiser years (ahem)…i.e. Write a good melody, a good hook, play as loud as possible, and sing about something relevant... That's the way its always been... .. .. REVIEWS FOR APPLAUD FRIENDS....THE COMEDY IS OVER (2007):.. 'an album which has aptly been championed as 'a gem from start to finish'. 9/10”.. Frequency Ireland Blog... .. ‘From the album's opener, "Lions Led By Donkey's" to the closing track "I Live With Bruce Banner", where the vocalist even shouts "This is the end!" the band moves through it's motions effortlessly. Each song flows so nicely into the next, and there is no filler on here, each one of the 11 songs are just as good as the next’.. Siczine.com.. .. ‘This is a fine album, a hopeful album….a cut above the average….if you like your tuneful post-hardcore and bands like Whipping Boy and Hot Snakes and Trail Of The Dead, if you like clever anthemic rock with a little twist and turn and a little bit of details that makes them stand out from the crowd, if you like delivered with a caustic edge, then this is for you... rather good, like it lots’.. Organ Magazine.. .. .. REVIEWS FOR "UNDER FRIENDLY FIRE" (2009).. .. "They’ve been knocking around on the periphery for years now, but with their second album this Cork-based quartet have delivered a real winner. Produced by ex-Cyclefly guitarist Ciaran O’Shea, “Under Friendly Fire” is a relentless record that sees them progressing to new heights with their caustic post-hardcore assault. Visceral guitars, anthemic choruses and polemical lyrics combine to produce a record that from start to finish is all killer, no filler. Hopefully 2010 will see them hitting UK shores and gaining the attention they thoroughly deserve. .. .. Darren Taylor (Rocksound Editor) .. .. Hope is Noise have been knocking around for a good few years now, and it’s weird how the Irish quartet haven’t attracted more attention. There’s an early-90s alt-rock spirit about songs like ‘Speak over You’ and ‘No Stretchmarks’ that’s executed with an authenticity that’s perhaps indicative of the fact they’re no spring chickens. Elsewhere, opener ‘Peace & Quiet’ boasts a marvellous urgency, while the aggressive vocal catharsis of ‘You, the World and the Bubble’ and epic shoegazing charm of closer ‘Our Failing Species’ are both indicative of the band’s ambitious and expansive scope. ‘Under Friendly Fire’ isn’t extraordinary, but it consistently delivers strong songs.".. .. (7/10) Rocksound Magazine.. .. .. "If the untimely demise of both Hot Snakes and Far has left you yearning for an act to assume the mantle of post-hardcore heroes, then look no further than Cork's Hope is Noise. Under Friendly Fire is their second record and it's a bloodthirsty, ugly-as-an-open wound piece of work that offers catharsis by way of punk rock riffs and impassioned vocals. While the band have (for some unknown reason) yet to get the mainstream acclaim they deserve, this album cound not only see them to get their dues in Ireland, but on a worldwide scale. Inspiring stuff.".. .. Edwin McFee Hotpress Magazine.. .. ..
