Well, I've got two upcoming shows to promote... Is that "News"? The first will be me doing a solo SADIE HELL set at the MODERNBOYS MODERNGIRLS CD Release Show at Zaphods on Thursday oct 22nd. It'll be $5 at the door, and it should be a pretty good party. The following week we've been asked to perform at the final evening of the annual Ottawa International Writers Festival, headlining over John Ralston Saul! (Kind of) we'll be doing two-piece, saxophone and guitar versions of our songs at 10:30pm at the afterparty at St. Brigid's ~ Ben!
News ~ Sept 11th, 2009
The album is finished being mastered, and it turns out that since we're set on pressing it as a 12" vinyl LP, there's only going to be 8 songs on it. I guess Sadie Hell songs are longer than I thought? Who knew... Maybe the others will end up on the compact disc version of the album. But maybe not. Maybe there'll be a secret song or two. Very 1994. Also scratch that September release date. Let's go with October or November ~ Ben!
News ~ July 20th, 2009
The debut full length record is almost finished being mixed by our friend Philip Shaw Bova at the famous Bova Sound located in Nepean. The self-titled release is slated to "drop" in September and will feature no less than 10 new recordings. We've been working on this puppy for over a year now and I can't wait to share it with you all. I'd also like to formally welcome sax player Dave Halabisky into the band as a full-time member. That's all for now ~ Ben!
About Sadie Hell ~
"the unpredictability makes people turn their eyes toward the stage – the whole thing's a spectacular bender" ~ August 2009, The Ottawa Citizen.
"bearer of a powerful voice and the look of a Maori doing the Haka when he hits those emotional highs" ~ April 2008, Exclaim! Magazine.
"Sadie Hell got things off to an appropriately dramatic start, as vocalist Ben Welland’s beautiful strumming and guttural howl felt perfect in the enclosed, and somewhat creepy, setting" ~ April 2007, Exclaim! Magazine.
"huge with key changes, disconnected parts and hollers – a kind of Bohemian Rhapsody for the post-screamo set" ~ March 2007, The Ottawa Citizen.
"emotionally raw, cello-laden" ~ November 2006, Ottawa Xpress.
Hey Ben ~ Just stopping by to thank you for Prime Minister Harpers recent failings ... Nice work ! Love your photos in here ~ Looking forward to having you here with us on Thursday ~
So I didn't get to make it to your Not a Conservative Party show, unfortunately, as I was traveling that day. I'm playing at Avant Garde Bar on Tuesday (21) though, around 8:30pm. It's a pwyc/donation thing. If you're into that, it would be good to actually have a conversation with you.
I saw that poster a couple days ago and saved it to my computer - it's the best show poster I've seen in a while.
Exile is at the corner of Bank and Cooper. The address is 256 Bank - it's on the second floor. Awkward to find, but the name is on the door, and also the windows.
